After ejecting, he landed in Pakistani territory. Locals attacked him before the Pakistani army took him into custody. He was held for two days, and on March 1, 2019, Pakistan released him.

Pakistan was blamed based on early investigations and intelligence. In response, India increased pressure on Pakistan over terror funding. The Indian Air Force (IAF) launched air strikes inside Pakistan, the first in nearly 50 years.

On February 26, just 12 days after the Pulwama attack, the IAF targeted a terrorist training camp in Balakot, Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. This camp belonged to Jaish-e-Mohammed, the group that claimed responsibility for the Pulwama attack. It was believed to be their largest training facility.

To counter all this situation Abhinandan was captured by Pakistan, and he was released on 28th February 2016.
